Here are two classic B adventure films that take us to the windswept deserts of the Middle East (thanks to stock footage and studio backlots). Warner Brothers Adventures In Iraq is a fast-paced remake of 1930’s The Green Goddess, with Nazis added for Forties audiences. When a pilot (Warren Douglas) is forced to land in the Syrian desert, he and his passengers (John Loder and Ruth Ford) find themselves the unwilling guests of Sheik Ahmid Bel Nor (Paul Cavanagh), who plans to hold the trio hostage to prevent the execution of his three Nazi-spy brothers. In 1937’s The Legion of Missing Men, an action-filled programmer from Monogram, Bob Carter (Ralph Forbes) and his new-recruit brother Don (Dragnet’s Ben Alexander) are after the beautiful Nina (Halla Linda). After a series of complications, the Carter brothers are captured and tortured by an evil Arabian Sheik, Ul Ahmed (Roy D Arcy). In the end, the Sheik’s men storm the Legionaires fort, where one of the brothers will make the supreme sacrifice. Both pictures are a harem-full of exciting, two-fisted Arabian action.
